The Indiana Fever signed veteran forward Brianna Turner Monday, the latest move in what has been a very busy offseason for the franchise.
Turner, a University of Notre Dame graduate and two-time WNBA All-Defensive Team selection, joins the Fever as a free agent after spending the 2024 season with the Chicago Sky.
“Throughout her career, Brianna has established herself as an elite defender in the WNBA,” Fever GM Amber Cox said. “She adds depth to our post rotation, bringing exceptional shot-blocking and rebounding abilities to our team. Brianna’s basketball IQ is off the charts, she plays with great pace and is another fantastic veteran presence for us, both on and off the court.”
Turner has averaged 4.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game over six WNBA seasons. She earned her first All-Defensive Team nod in 2020 after ranking second in the league in blocks per game (2.0) and total blocks (43). That same year, she became the first player in WNBA history to record at least 10 points, 20 rebounds, five assists, and four blocks in a single game.
She received another All-Defensive selection in 2021, finishing the season ranked sixth in offensive (2.4) and defensive (7.0) rebounds per game, and eighth in blocks per game (1.3).
Turner expressed her enthusiasm about joining the Fever as the team seems primed for a title run.
“I am ecstatic to join the Fever organization and compete for a championship,” Turner said. “I was drawn to the team's commitment to investing in women and providing the best professional atmosphere for success. The front office and coaching staff have assembled a dynamic roster that I’m looking forward to learning from and growing with throughout the season. I can’t wait to arrive in Indy and get to work.”
Turner was drafted 11th overall by the Atlanta Dream in 2019 before being traded to the Phoenix Mercury, where she spent five seasons. She was named to the 2019 WNBA All-Rookie Team after averaging 6.9 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks over her final 14 games of the season.
At Notre Dame, Turner helped lead the Fighting Irish to the 2018 NCAA Championship, the program’s second-ever national title. She now will be asked to provide similar support in the Fever's quest for a WNBA Championship.
