The Jason Whitlock-ESPN feud is back in the news, this time regarding Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark.
Whitlock, on his podcast Extra Fearless, fired a shot at ESPN's First Take and its comments about Caitlin Clark and JuJ u Watkins. First Take discussed the way Watkins is talked about in the media in comparison to Clark.
"I don't know if I've seen a women's college basketball player as polished as JuJu Watkins," said cohost Shannon Sharpe. "She is as polished of a basketball player as we've seen at the college level."
Stephen A. Smith continued the praise of Watkins.
"We should be talking about [Watkins] the same way we were talking about Caitlin Clark last year," said Smith. "She is the package. She's going to be special."
It is a tremendous compliment to the USC sophomore, and at face value that's all it is. But Whitlock had different opinions on the matter.
In a YouTube video titled "JuJu Watkins will NEVER be Caitlin Clark," Whitlock took aim at ESPN. He implied that First Take was saying that Watkins and Clark were covered differently because of race. Whitlock dismissed this.
"You better support JuJu the same way you supported Caitlin Clark," said Whitlock, mockingly. "Everyone knows that's the inference-- it's not true."
Whitlock and First Take have butted heads before. Whitlock, a former ESPN employee, has targeted the show and its host Stephen A. Smith many times before. Smith has addressed the dispute once on his podcast, The Stephen A. Smith Show, but has not since addressed Whitlock.
Nonetheless, JuJu Watkins and Caitlin Clark are still captivating the women's basketball world.
