After a big win over the Chicago Sky to open the season, the Fever couldn’t extend their win streak. They lost to the Atlanta Dream by one point, unable to hold off Rhyne Howard, Brittney Griner, and the rest of the Dream.
Despite the loss, Caitlin Clark reached another career milestone and made another huge statement. She finished the game with 27 points, five rebounds, 11 assists, and two steals. The game marked her tenth outing with at least 20 points and 10 assists and her sixth with at least 25 points and 10 assists. Clark is now tied with Courtney Vandersloot for the most 20-point, 10-assist games in WNBA history and holds the sole record for the most 25-point, 10-assist games.
The most impressive part of this is how quickly Clark reached the milestone. It took Vandersloot 394 games to record at least 20 points and 10 rebounds ten times. Clark did it in only 42 games. To put this in perspective, each team plays 44 games in the 2025 WNBA season. So, it took Clark roughly one season to tie a record Vandersloot had worked years to set.
Caitlin Clark just can’t stop making WNBA history
By now, hearing that Clark broke a WNBA record is really no surprise anymore—Not after her historic rookie season. In her first season with the Fever, she set the record for most points scored by a guard in a single season, set a new rookie scoring record, became the first rookie to record a triple-double, led the WNBA in assists, became the fastest player to reach 100 made threes, and was the first player to record at least 20 points, 15 assists, and five rebounds in a game.
Clark’s record-breaking rookie season left no doubt that she was on track to become a WNBA all-time great. She has already been compared to some of the best players in the game, like Diana Taurasi. This latest milestone and the speed with which she reached it only further prove that she is on the right track to becoming one of the best players to ever play in the WNBA.
The Fever still have to figure out some things around Caitlin Clark
Despite Clark’s big game, the Fever couldn’t get the win, and that is concerning. No one should overreact to just one game, but it shed light on some issues the Fever must sort out quickly.
For one, Stephanie White’s decision to sub out Clark to close the game was rather controversial. Likewise, the Fever need more from DeWanna Bonner, who only took one shot in 16 minutes on the court.
The Fever must prove that they can beat other good teams. Atlanta was shorthanded without Jordin Canada and wasn’t even expected to be as good as the Liberty, Lynx, and Aces. Those are the teams the Fever must beat to accomplish their goal of competing for a championship.
