Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean revealed Friday that Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark sent him a message following the Eagles' 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
DeJean appeared on Up and Adams with Kay Adams on Wednesday, where he told the story of Clark reaching out to him via text. Clark and DeJean are both former Iowa Hawkeyes, both playing for the university at the same time.
"She sent me a nice message congratulating me," said DeJean. "That was nice of her, being a Chiefs fan and all."
Clark says she has been a Chiefs fan since she was young, stating on the New Heights Podcast that Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are currently her favorite players. Nevertheless, she made sure to give her fellow Iowa alum his flowers after Sunday's dominating win.
DeJean, in the second quarter of Super Bowl LIX, picked off Mahomes on the Kansas City 38-yard-line and returned it for a touchdown. DeJean had an electric rookie season, establishing himself as one of the promising young defensive backs in the league.
Clark, of course, had quite the rookie season of her own. She led the WNBA in assists and was a top 10 scorer, earning herself All-WNBA First Team honors and the WNBA Rookie of the Year award. She and the Indiana Fever sold out 36 of the 40 regular season games they played in last season, showing just how strong the Fever's draw is both at home and on the road.
Just two Hawkeyes, turning heads in their rookie seasons.
