Caitlin Clark has many qualities that make her a great basketball player—she has great court vision, dishes out amazing assists, can score and space the floor, and never backs down from a challenge. On top of simply being a talented and hardworking player, Clark is also incredibly competitive.

Clark wants to compete and win at all costs. That competitive fire earned her a bunch of technicals last season, but it also makes her one of the most electric players in the league. Stephanie White has already addressed her plans to help Clark challenge that competitiveness in a more productive way that will hopefully result in fewer technicals.

Now, it seems Clark’s competitiveness has reached a new level ahead of the Fever’s 2025 season.

Caitlin Clark has high expectations for the Fever’s new season

The Fever had a great offseason, adding championship veterans and defensive-minded players. Expectations are pretty high, as the Fever seem well set up to hang with other contenders like the Liberty, the Lynx, and the Aces now.

For Caitlin Clark, there is only one way the Fever’s season should be considered a success.

When asked what success looks like for this revamped Fever team, Clark said, “A championship.”

That should worry the rest of the league. Clark is difficult to deal with on the court in any situation. Even in her rookie season, teams regularly felt they had to throw their strongest defenders at Clark. Nevertheless, she managed to lead the Fever to their first playoff appearance since 2016.

Now that Clark is obviously determined to win a championship and believes that the Fever can accomplish that goal this season, she will be even more difficult to guard. After all, how do you stop one of the best and most competitive players in the league, if she is utterly determined to beat you?

Moreover, opponents won’t just have to deal with Clark and her competitive fire. The Fever have plenty of offensive weapons at every position now. Between Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, and Sophie Cunningham, the Fever have several players who can put up big numbers and swing a game in their team’s favor.

Clark already excelled last season. After some bumps in the road from Iowa to the WNBA, she was difficult to guard, and it quickly seemed that all she needed to win at the highest level was some more experience and better teammates. She has that now, as well as the drive to win a championship. That alone will make the Fever a tough challenge, even for other contenders
