The Indiana Fever had a big offseason, attracting big-time free agents DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard and trading for Sophie Cunningham. After last season’s success, the front office wasted no time to build a contender around Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston. Clark and Boston may still be young, but the Fever created a window for themselves.
They have a legitimate chance to compete for a championship this offseason, even though the competition is strong. The New York Liberty kept their championship core together and added Natasha Cloud. Losing Betnijah Laney-Hamilton to an injury hurts, but it doesn’t dismiss the Liberty from the title chase. Likewise, the Minnesota Lynx kept their core together, and Napheesa Collier looks ready to take home the MVP award. The Las Vegas Aces still have A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young, and added Jewel Loyd in the offseason.
There are plenty of strong teams in the WNBA this season, but the competition is starting to take notice of the Fever. Lynx veteran Courtney Williams had some nice things to say about the Fever but also issued a challenge.
Courtney Williams believes the Fever will be a real threat
On her new podcast Courtney’s Daddy and Her, Courtney Williams and her dad, who quickly became a fan favorite in Minnesota for his involvement in his daughter’s career, discussed WNBA free agency. Given the moves they made, the Fever were a huge topic, and Courtney Williams did not shy away from giving them their flowers.
“Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, and Aliyah Boston. And they got Sophie Cunningham coming off the bench,” Williams said, acknowledging the Fever’s depth. “I’m not gonna lie, they sound kinda dangerous.”
Later, she added, “I think Indiana is going to be a dangerous team. At least top four.”
Admitting that the Fever have the potential to be one of the top teams in the league, is a sign of great respect. However, Williams is still confident in her team’s ability to come out on top.
“I think we’re still going to beat them,” she said after admitting how dangerous she thinks Indiana will be in the 2025 season.
While the Fever and their fans should appreciate William’s willingness to give Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and the team their flowers, her comments should also make the Fever even more motivated to put together a great season.
The Fever have a strong roster, but they are also new to the contender circle. Meanwhile, the Liberty and Aces have been contenders for years, and the Lynx already went to the finals last season. Indiana is the only one of those teams relying heavily on two young stars. The 2025 season is not just a chance for the Fever to win big but also to let everyone know that they are ready to compete with some of the best veterans in the league right now.
