In March women's basketball fans were stunned by a new photo of Caitlin Clark at the Big Ten tournament that appeared to show the Fever superstar has seriously been hitting the weights.
The photos prompted a strong reaction from fans on the platform. "Her bully count for next season just dropped by 40%," wrote one fan while another noted, "They won't be pushing her around next year."
Caitlin Clark denies the allegations... kind of
But though fans are convinced the WNBA needs to get ready for an even stronger Caitlin Clark, the woman herself dispelled some of the hype during an interview with Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird at the women's Championship Game in Tampa on Sunday, April 6.
After the pair asked Clark about the photo, she grinned and commented, "It was the camera angle!" before she added, "AI is getting out of control, c'mon." After some pushing from Taurasi and Bird, Clark admitted, "I'm trying to get stronger, like a lot of time in the weight room. It's something I kind of enjoy, so it's pretty easy for me to spend time in there and really work on that part of my game."
Caitlin Clark isn't shy about speaking about her skills
Taurasi and Bird's show isn't Clark's only media appearance late. During an interview on David Letterman's My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, she proudly spoke about her ability to make "miracle passes," as the former late night TV host put it.
"For me, I would say it's my IQ. I feel like I can see things that are about to happen on the basketball court before they happen," Clark explained. After she was asked if that's a skill that everyone on her team has, Clark added simply, "No."
She also said that her childhood playing soccer has likely helped her with this particular skill, and said the sport taught her spacing, angles, and how to pass to her teammates based on where they are going, instead of where they are in the moment.
The Fever are gearing up for a major season
The Fever will open up the season with three preseason games this year. The first on May 3 will be played at Gainbridge against the Mystics. The team will then travel back to Clark's alma mater to meet the Brazilian National Team on May 4 before playing against the Dream in Atlanta on May 10.
