The latest Unrivaled announcement virtually confirms Caitlin Clark’s status
By Tyler Watts
The Indiana Fever are committed to building their roster around Caitlin Clark. The 22-year-old proved she is already one of the best players in the world as she helped her team snap the W’s longest playoff drought. Clark broke records and brought millions of fans to the game. It was an incredible season and proved she is one of the world’s most popular athletes.
It is why every league is trying to convince her to play this offseason. Unrivaled is rumored to be chasing hard after signing a massive TV deal with TNT. The player-backed league knows there will be millions of people tuning in if they get Clark, but they may have already received her answer.
They announced Aaliyah Edwards as their 28th player on Oct. 29, which leaves just two open spots. The league was started by Breanna Steward and Napheesa Collier, and the Lynx star told fans how many rookies were taking part. That likely solves the mystery of Clark's involvement.
Unrivaled announces 4th rookie which virtually confirms Caitlin Clark is out
Collier said four rookies would be among the 30 players in the league for the inaugural season. Edwards joins Angel Reese, Rickea Jackson, and Kate Martin as already-announced first-year players. That leaves no room for Clark.
Unrivaled still has two players left to announce and is likely making one final push to sign the Fever’s superstar. Fans thought she may have more interest after her college teammate Kate Martin was announced, but Clark wants a quiet offseason to work on her game. Fans have already seen her back in the gym putting in the hours.
It appears Clark will not play in any league this offseason. Unrivaled has a star-studded lineup and excitement is building for the January kickoff. It will grow exponentially if Clark is announced as one of the final two players. Expect the league to do whatever possible to make that happen, but number 22 appears uninterested.
The Indiana Fever have already began trying to build a title contender around her. They revamped their front office and are beginning a search for a new head coach. Roster upgrades are expected to come. Clark will be running for MVP in 2025 and the Fever believe she can lead them to championship. It is all about putting the right pieces around her.
There will be plenty of news and rumors this offseason, so stay tuned for all the latest.
