The Indiana Fever are back in contention because of Caitlin Clark. She had a record-breaking first season in the W. The 22-year-old quickly became one of the best players and earned first-team All-WNBA honors as she helped the Fever snap the league’s longest playoff drought. It was an unbelievable season that saw Clark bring new popularity to the league. Fans certainly won’t forget it.

Clark won Rookie of the Year in a landslide but fell one vote short of being unanimous. She deserved to be the fifth player ever to earn that honor, but someone decided to choose Angel Reese over her. The Sky’s forward had a phenomenal season, but she was not on par with Clark’s greatness.

Many expected that voter was Sheryl Swoopes after the Hall of Famer took jabs at Clark in the past, but the all-time great told her side of the story on her new podcast. “Levels to This” is produced by iHeartPodcasts, as part of the company's new Women's Sports Audio Network. Get the update here.

Sheryl Swoopes denies casting a vote for WNBA Rookie of the Year

Swoopes was asked if she was the one voter who chose Reese over Clark, but the legend denied voting for any WNBA awards. Fans can read her quote from the podcast below.

“First of all, congratulations to Caitlin –– very well deserved. She had a hell of a rookie year doing things that just haven't been done by a rookie before. But I hate to disappoint the people…You all cannot blame this one on me. I don't get a vote. I've never had a vote in any of the awards.”

Swoopes claims it was not her, but fans will never truly know. The WNBA does not release the award ballots like the NBA does. Someone admitting to it will be the only way supporters ever find out who cast the ludicrous ballot.

Fans can listen to the entire podcast below.

Clark finished fourth in MVP voting and was named first-team All-WNBA. No other rookie could match her production. Angel Reese was impressive and her double-double streak was record-breaking. She is one of the best rebounders in the world, but the Sky missed the playoffs. Clark led the best offense in the W after the Olympic break and willed her team to the postseason while breaking the record for assists in a season.

The Fever’s superstar deserved to be unanimous Rookie of the Year. She was the top first-year player in a historic class. That takes nothing away from any other player. Caitlin Clark was just that good.

The Indiana Fever expect more in year two. They hope to jump into title contention as Clark joins the MVP race. Indiana will be the most popular team, and everyone should be excited for what is to come.
