The Indiana Fever are fresh off a franchise-altering season. They snapped a seven-year playoff drought as Caitlin Clark became a superstar. She made first-team All-WNBA, won Rookie of the Year, and finished fourth in MVP voting. That does not mention the shattered records or millions of fans brought to the league. It was a special season, but the Fever are eager for more.
Aliyah Boston won Rookie of the Year in 2023 and is already a two-time All-Star. If the Fever re-sign Kelsey Mitchell, they will have three prime All-Stars at the top of their roster. It is a solid foundation, but Indiana needs more. Improvement from Clark and Boston coupled with an in-flux of talent could make the franchise a serious title threat in 2025.
Boston is not wasting time. The 22-year-old was spotted in the gym working on a skill that could take her game and the Fever’s overall play to the next level.
Aliyah Boston is working on her 3-point shot this offseason
Indiana is building their roster around Caitlin Clark. She created the most points in the W and broke the record for assists in 2024. The 22-year-old led the league's number one offense after the Olympic break and will be better in year two. Spacing the floor and giving her more options will only make Indiana more dangerous.
Boston was spotted working on her jumper in a video posted by WNBA Central. Putting shooting and defense around Clark is a simple formula to win more games. Boston's jumper looked smooth as she made four of five in the clip.
Her shooting increased from her rookie season to year two. Boston made four of ten 3-point attempts in 2023 before hitting seven of 26 in the franchise's breakout campaign. She took just 0.7 per game and was not a threat from beyond the arc.
Boston being able to sink wide-open catch-and-shoot looks adds a new dimension to the Fever’s offense. She is 6’5 and a force in the paint. Even if she does not become a pick-and-pop threat, just being able to hit standstill jumpers forces the defense to make unwanted decisions.
Fans cannot expect too much. The 22-year-old has made 11 3-pointers in her first two WNBA seasons combined. She will not instantly become a lights-out shooter. Being a threat at 33 percent from long range on one attempt her game would do wonders for the Fever’s already elite attack.
Indiana Fever fans should be ecstatic that Aliyah Boston is trying to expand her shooting range. She has six months to improve before the WNBA season starts ramping back up. There will be tons of work and an improved jumper. The Fever will be better too, and the excitement will only build from here.
