The Indiana Fever joined the WNBA ahead of the 2000 season. Accordingly, the team held its expansion draft in December 1999 and participated in its first regular draft in 2000. Since then, the Fever won one championship in 2012 and selected some incredibly talented players in the WNBA Draft. Tamika Catchings, Briann January, Natasha Howard (even though she became an All-Star after the Fever traded her after her rookie season), Aliyah Boston, and Caitlin Clark headline that list.
Particularly in recent years, the WNBA Draft has been a big event for the Indiana Fever. In the last two drafts, the Fever owned the number one pick and selected two players that will decide the future of the franchise.
For now, Tamika Catchings, who was a multi-time All-Star and Defensive Player of the Year as well as an MVP with the Fever and led Indiana to its first WNBA championship in 2012, still holds the title as the best player in Fever franchise history. Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston are well set up to quickly work their way up on that list, however.
This year, the draft may not be as big of an affair for the Fever, but it is still a great time to look back on the team’s past draft picks.
