The WNBA Draft has been an exciting time for Indiana Fever fans in recent years. The Fever received top picks, including two number-one picks, in three consecutive years.

This year’s draft won’t be nearly as exciting for the Indiana Fever. They do not have a first-round pick but can select some interesting players in the second round. Iowa Hawkeyes Sydney Affolter and Lucy Olsen should be on the team’s radar.

The Fever have nailed plenty of their draft picks in the past, and, with the 2025 WNBA Draft so close, there is no better time to look back at some of the best draft picks in Fever history.

Kelsey Mitchell

The Indiana Fever drafted Kelsey Mitchell second overall in the 2018 Draft. She has been with the team ever since and endured a lot of losses. Nevertheless, Mitchell stayed loyal and found success in recent seasons. After winning Rookie of the Year in 2018, she was selected to her first All-Star team in 2023 and then made another one in 2024.

Mitchell was a key part of the Fever’s success in the 2024 season and will be a crucial element in their chase for a title this season.

Aliyah Boston

Aliyah Boston joined the Indiana Fever as the first overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft. Boston came with a stacked college resume and quickly made her mark in the WNBA as well. In 2023, she won Rookie of the Year and made her first All-Star team. A year later, she was named to her second All-Star team and helped lead the Fever back to the playoffs.

Boston is one of the cornerstones of the Fever’s franchise and should be with the team for years to come, leading her squat to a lot of success.

Briann January

In 2009, the Indiana Fever selected Briann January with the sixth overall pick. January played for the Fever between 2009 and 2017 and was a key player during the Fever’s 2012 championship run, cementing her name in franchise history. During the 2012 season, she was the team’s third-leading scorer and averaged the third-most minutes per game.

While with the Fever, January established herself as a defensive standout, being named to four All-Defensive First Teams and two All-Defensive Second Teams. She was also named an All-Star in 2014.

Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark may have only played one WNBA season so far, but she is clearly one of the best players the Fever ever drafted. As a rookie, Clark was an All-Star, won the Rookie of the Year award, led the WNBA in assists, and was named to the All-WNBA First Team. On top of that, she did wonders for the Fever’s popularity. Because of Clark, the Fever were one of the most-watched teams in the league, and opponents had to start moving games to bigger arenas.

Clark has the potential to go down as the best Fever player in franchise history

Tamika Catchings

The Fever selected Tamika Catchings with the third overall pick in the 2001 WNBA Draft. Catchings played her entire WNBA career with the Fever and put together an amazing career in Indiana. In 2012, Catchings led the Fever to the organization’s first championship, winning the Finals MVP award on the way.

Catchings also won the 2011 regular season MVP award and five Defensive Player of the Year awards. Moreover, Catchings was a 10-time All-Star, was named to seven All-WNBA First Teams and ten All-Defensive First Teams, and is the WNBA all-time leader in steals.

She did all that after missing the 2001 season with a torn ACL.
