Caitlin Clark deserves this historic honor (despite Angel Reese’s greatness)
By Tyler Watts
The Indiana Fever are back in the playoffs and hungry to make some noise with Caitlin Clark. The 22-year-old is already elite and drawing comparisons to the NBA’s best. Indiana will be on the road to begin the playoffs, but fans will come out to see Clark. She is a massive draw and may do something special in any game.
Clark was an All-Star and led the league in assists as a rookie. She averaged 19.5 points, 8.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in 35.8 minutes per game. Those are outstanding numbers, but Clark’s impact goes far beyond the stats. She has lifted the WNBA to new heights in popularity and is revolutionizing the entire league.
It has been a historic rookie class with Angel Reese immediately becoming a star, but Clark stands above the competition. The Fever’s star will win Rookie of the Year, but that isn't enough.
Caitlin Clark deserves to be unanimous Rookie of the Year
There have only been five unanimous Rookie of the Year winners in WNBA history, including Aliyah Boston in 2023. The first four are some of the best women to ever play the game. Clark and Boston could become an elite duo and change the W.
Clark has set several records and is already the biggest draw in basketball. She broke the single-season assist mark and set a new record for assists in a game. CC is the best playmaker in the league as a 22-year-old and an offense with her at the helm is instantly elite.
Angel Reese deserves plenty of credit. The seventh overall pick was an All-Star and broke the record for rebounds in a season only for it to be topped by A’ja Wilson. Fans love to build up the Clark versus Reese rivalry, but there is no question here. The Sky missed the playoffs, and Reese could not match Clark’s dominance.
There was a stage where it seemed like a competition, but Reese’s season-ending injury coupled with Clark reaching new heights down the stretch sealed it for the Fever’s star. Since the Olympic break, Clark averaged 24.3 points, 8.9 assists, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 37.1 minutes per game. She barely comes off the floor, and Indiana won nine of their 13 contests to clinch their spot in the playoffs. Everyone is wondering what the franchise can do when the games matter most.
Caitlin Clark will win Rookie of the Year, but fans must wait to see if she is a unanimous selection. It will be the first of many awards she wins in her WNBA career. Clark is already one of the league’s best and just getting started. The sky’s the limit, so stay tuned to see what she accomplishes next.
