The Indiana Fever lost to the Dallas Wings 101-93 on Wednesday evening in the final game before the All-Star break. It snapped a two-game win streak, but there was plenty to celebrate as Caitlin Clark went off. Fans know she is arguably the best playmaker in the WNBA, but nobody expected this.
The rookie finished with 24 points, 19 assists, and six rebounds in 40 minutes of action. She never left the floor as she made ten of her 19 field goals. Clark did a bit of everything against the Wings, but it was not enough.
The turnovers were again an issue, but that should do nothing to take away from her historic night. Clark broke the WNBA record for most assists in a game and the Fever's top mark for assists in a season after just 26 games.
Caitlin Clark proves she is on another level as a playmaker
The 22-year-old rookie has had some impressive games and improves every time out. No Fever fan wants to see the All-Star and Olympic break arrive as Clark is hitting her stride. She was making plays all over the floor and showed why she is the top playmaker in the league.
Clark dished out 19 dimes on Wednesday evening, which set a new record for most in a game. Courtney Vandersloot held the previous mark with 18. The Fever’s star topped the rookie mark of 16 and now stands alone in the record books. See the historic dime below.
Clark also broke the franchise record for assists in a season with this dime in the second quarter.
Nobody should doubt Clark’s playmaking chops. She can get buckets, shot from halfcourt, and make any pass. She may break the WNBA single-season record for assists as a 22-year-old rookie.
It is crazy to think that Clark is just getting started. The 6’0 guard will continue to improve and the Indiana Fever will keep climbing the standings. She is not just a massive draw. Clark is already one of the league’s best players and the sky is the limit.
Fans should tune in for the All-Star festivities this weekend. It will be Indiana Fever fan's last chance to see Caitlin Clark until the Fever pick back up play on August 16 against the Phoenix Mercury. See is must-watch, and Indiana needs every possible win as they fight for playoff position. Do not miss it.
