Caitlin Clark has a lot of goals for the 2025 WNBA season.
As she told Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird during the women's NCAA championship game on Sunday, April 6, some of those goals include only getting hit with two technical fouls this year. Though Taurasi and Bird both insisted it's more likely Clark will end up with more than 4.5 techs, Clark said she's promised Coach Stephanie White the actual number will be lower.
"I came close to getting suspended for our last game, and obviously every front office tries to get your technicals taken away, and they wouldn't take any of mine away," she explained. "I got two for slapping the stanchion of the hoop and I got another one for accidentally hitting someone in the eye. So half of them weren't even me getting to talk to the refs, which was dumb."
"I already told Steph two max," Clark added.
The Indiana Fever want to win it all this year
It's also clear that winning the WNBA Championship is high on the list of accomplishments Clark and the Fever want to add this year. On April 2 the team brought back Briann January, who helped win the Fever the championship in 2012, as an assistant coach. Like Head Coach Stephanie White, January has plenty of history with the Fever. She was selected by the team as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft just weeks after graduating from Arizona State University. She played 9 of her 14 seasons in the league with the Fever, won the championship in 2012, and remains the number 2 ranked player in terms of games played and assists.
The Fever has also added plenty of moving pieces to the team to help ensure its maximum success. Keeping Kelsey Mitchell signed to the team was a crucial part of that plan, and signing DeWanna Bonner — a two-time championship winner for the Mercury — was the proverbial cherry on top.
Perhaps the most clear indication the Fever means business this year was when the team brought in Stephanie White as head coach after firing Christie Sides. White will make sure Clark, Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston improve their defense, something that will enhance the Fever as a whole.
Caitlin Clark only needs one thing to win MVP this year
Clark was a fan favorite for MVP in 2024, though the award (justifiably) went to A'ja Wilson. But if there's one thing that she needs to push the award over the top, it's for her team to just win. Sure, Clark has a few skills she needs to advance (using her left and defense), but she already got off to a strong start during her rookie season. If the Fever can win it all this year, Clark is basically a shoo-in.
