Unrivaled adds Fever star and more players as pursuit for Caitlin Clark continues
By Tyler Watts
The Indiana Fever have had the last two players announced to join Unrivaled. The player-backed league landed Lexie Hull, who figures to be deadly given her 3-on-3 experience, on Wednesday before announcing Aliyah Boston on Halloween. Boston is the 30th player in Unrivaled, but the league announced they were expanding to 36 players for their opening season earlier in the day.
With six spots remaining, there is still room for Caitlin Clark. Unrivaled has a standing offer to the Fever’s superstar and is waiting for her to accept. She is already one of the best players in the world and brings something no other player can. The 22-year-old has a massive fan base that will instantly support the startup league.
Unrivaled wants her services and improved their chances with their two most recent additions. There were zero Fever players in the league before Oct. 29, but two have been added in two days. Is it enough to convince number 22?
Unrivaled have improved their odds of landing Caitlin Clark
Clark is rumored to be leaning towards joining the league after previously being said to prefer a quiet offseason working in the gym. She has the chance to play with two of her teammates and make a ton of money doing it. Unrivaled will see much higher ratings and more sales if Clark ultimately accepts their invite. This could be a win for all involved.
The league added Clark's college teammate Kate Martin this week as well. It is clear there is a push towards convincing Clark, but there has been zero announcement. It seems more plausible the Fever's star joins after adding six new players. The decision rests with the 22-year-old. She doesn’t need the money but may want to play with her friends and teammates to gear up for her second WNBA season.
Unrivaled is 3-on-3 basketball with six players per team. They will play 28-minute games starting in January. It would be a new experience for Clark and should suit her game. The new league’s courts are smaller, which means even deeper-looking triples for the Fever’s star.
The Indiana Fever plan on upgrading their roster this offseason and want to build a title contender around Caitlin Clark. Growth from their current talent is crucial, so it is a plus to see them playing in the startup league. Everyone is just waiting to see if Clark will join them.
