The Indiana Fever are the most popular team in the WNBA. Caitlin Clark brought millions of fans with her, but her play kept them around. The 22-year-old instantly became a star and is already one of the league’s best players.

With the newfound popularity came good and bad. The new fans brought more eyeballs, which ignited the social media trolls. The Fever were forced to change and adapt. It allowed them to form one of the tightest groups in the W, but it certainly was not easy.

The league will only keep growing. The WNBA Finals audience is breaking records without Clark. Projected number one overall pick Paige Bueckers has a massive following, and the crop of young talent will push the entire league to new heights. With it will come even more trolls, and the Fever must stay ahead of the curve.

Fever must continue to avoid social media drama as they upgrade

Indiana did a fantastic job of blocking out the noise and focusing on the basketball this season. The trolls were there, but the Fever ignored them. Kelsey Mitchell and Erica Wheeler were genuinely surprised during their exit interviews when asked about Alyssa Thomas' comments on it.

This allowed the entire franchise to do their jobs. The players focused on the games and improving. They had to answer the questions, but it felt like the Fever were not checking the comment section or trying to stir up drama online.

This was a massive edge. Trolls impacted players on other teams, but the Fever blocked out the noise and just played the game. Online hate and racism shouldn’t be part of the WNBA, but the Fever cannot control what someone says on social media. All they can do is hoop and speak out against it.

Expect the audience to grow in year two with Caitlin Clark. It will mean more viewers and unfortunately, additional trolls. Avoiding social media and the drama it can create will be a must. The Fever want to upgrade their roster this offseason but must find the right pieces. Indiana needs players willing to focus on basketball and steer clear of the drama.

The Indiana Fever want to be a title contender in 2025. They have their superstar, but must find the right pieces around her. Kelly Krauskopf has experience building a winner and knows what her franchise needs. Better things are ahead, so buckle up for what promises to be an exciting ride.
