The Indiana Fever have the last two number-one overall picks on their roster. Caitlin Clark is selling out arenas and doing unprecedented things on a nightly basis, but Aliyah Boston is proving she is the team’s best player.

The 22-year-old reigning Rookie of the Year got off to a slow start in year two. Boston was adjusting to playing off Clark and her incredible playmaking ability. The transition was not easy, but Boston is showing everyone why she is already a two-time All-Star and the best is yet to come.

The 6’5 center is an elite rebounder, rim-protector, and scorer. She can take over games, and the Fever have hit their stride as Boston’s play has improved. Here is a closer look at her recent run and why Boston is the Fever’s current best player.

Aliyah Boston is a walking double-double putting up elite numbers

Over the Fever’s last 12 games, Boston is averaging 17.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.9 blocks in 32.6 minutes per game. She is shooting 60.7 percent from the field and has seven double-doubles during that stretch. The 22-year-old is 17th in scoring, third in rebounds, and fourth in blocks with only Angel Reese having more double-doubles.

In their last 12 games, the Fever are 8-4 with victories over three of the six teams above them in the standings.

Consider it a small sample if you wish, but fans know Boston is capable of putting up elite numbers. The 22-year-old was the number one overall pick in 2023 for several reasons. She led South Carolina to an NCAA championship and was the Player of the Year in college. Boston was destined for greatness and is already displaying it in the WNBA.

Having a dominant presence in the paint has long been a key to success in basketball. Many of the WNBA’s all-time greats played at the frontcourt. Boston could be the next name to join that list.

The Fever need her getting easy buckets, protecting the rim, and rebounding if they plan on breaking their seven-year playoff drought. If she keeps averaging over 17 points, ten rebounds, and nearly two blocks each night, Indiana will be a force.

The 2023 top selection is Indiana’s best player right now. Caitlin Clark is a special talent but is still adjusting to the WNBA. She already set the record for most turnovers in a season and needs more time. Boston has room to grow but is a bit further along in her development.

Aliyah Boston and Clark will form a dynamic duo for years to come in the WNBA. The Indiana Fever should only improve from here, so stay tuned. The future is certainly bright and supporters will see plenty of unexpected things as the two number one picks enter their primes.
