The Indiana Fever have made a lot of changes in this year's offseason and each of them are excellent for the team. The new additions include DeWanna Bonner, Sydney Colson, Natasha Howard, Brianna Turner, and Sophie Cunningham — all incredible athletes who are almost guaranteed to lead the Fever to a successful 2025 season.
Luckily for the Fever, their first few games this year are relatively easy, which will give the team plenty of time to gel and figure out what 2025 will look like.
The Fever has two preseason games this year. The first is on May 3 against the Washington Mystics and the second is on May 4 against the Brazilian National Team. Once the regular season begins, the Fever will face the Atlanta Dream, the Chicago Sky, and then the Dream in two back-to-back games.
Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese will face off early
Despite that relatively easy introduction to this year's season, there is a guaranteed marquee game early on: the Fever will take on the Sky on May 17 in a game that will be broadcast on ABC.
The two team's match ups during the 2024 season were regular ratings boosters for the WNBA. At least 1.6 million viewers watched the Fever when they beat the Sky 100-81, and the telecast peaked at 1.92 million viewers. That game was aired on ION, and was the fifth time that season that a WNBA game had over 1 million viewers on the network.
The Fever are setting regular season records before the season begins
Last week the Fever announced that 41 of the team's 44 regular season games will be broadcast nationally, the most in a single season of any WNBA team in the league's history.
It's clear that the Fever are building toward a championship this season, whether they're ready to admit it or not. Signing DeWanna Bonner to a one-year contract was one of the savvier moves the front office could have made. Bonner is coming off two of the best seasons of her career with the Connecticut Sun and Coach Stephanie White. Now that White is also in Indianapolis with the Fever, there's no doubt the duo will continue to work well together.
Bonner brings a lot of WNBA experience to the team. She has played in over 500 games — the third most of all time— and has 15 years of experience in the league. She's competitive in the same way Caitlin Clark is, and will likely be an inspiration to the team's star as she enters her second year. "I couldn’t be more excited to step on the floor with Caitlin," Bonner said duringa February press conference announcing her decision to sign with the team. "…I hope that I can give her some knowledge and take her game to a bigger level, so when I retire, she can pass that along to other players."
